Pictures from the Rock & Blues Big Weekend - Butlin's Skegness 30th January 2010

Well what a fantastic weekend this was. Loads of good bands but the undoubted sensation of the weekend was the Chantel McGregor band. A massive cheer went up as Chantel walked on stage playing the intro to 'Bridge to Better Days' & the capacity audience of 2000 were hooked! The 'big stage' certainly brings out the best in Chantel & she performed spectacularly well, smiling, laughing & using the whole stage to full effect.
After every guitar break throughout the set, the audience were cheering, shouting & whistling. It was a phenomenal crowd reaction, the likes of which I don't think I've witnessed before. The whole band were loving it & they put on a blistering performance. Alex's bass sounded truly awesome & together with a rock solid performance from Martin on drums, they provided Chantel with a perfect platform to perform spectacularly well. It was Phenomenal!
After her rendition of Robin Trower's 'Daydream' I asked a guy stood in front of me at the edge of the stage what he thought to that. He turned round & said he could hardly speak as he had tears in his eyes & a lump in his throat! The Chantel McGregor band were the only band I had seen up to then, that were allowed to do an encore. They didn't really have much choice - the whole audience were shouting for 'more' at the tops of their voices - it was unbelievable!
Well I had lost my voice & could only croak "That was absolutely awesome, un...believable" when I got back to our table. The set lasted just 1 hour 10 minutes - 9:20pm 'till 10:30pm & must surely be a defining moment in Chantel's career. The platform to launch her into superstardom!
Deborah Bonham asked to be introduced to Chantel & she asked her if she would like to join her on stage to play guitar for one of the songs in her set the following night. Wow, what an accolade! There was a whole buzz about the place for ages, in fact we went over to 'Jaks' at 1:00am & stayed 'till nearly 3:00am & she was getting stopped all the time by people wanting to congratulate her & show their appreciation.
I'm sorry Chantel, my pictures can't do justice to your performance, but here they are anyway...
